T20, ODI and Test — What Each Format Has to Offer

The first step in cricket betting is understanding the format. T20 matches are fast-paced — odds change every over, making them the best fit for in-play betting. An ODI spans 50 overs; there is more room to bet, and it is easier to spread the risk. Test cricket offers the deepest markets over five days — a draw is a valid result, which is not the case in the other two formats.

The most talked-about tournament among Bangladeshi fans is BPL, where the country's top teams take the field. There is also strong interest in IPL. ICC T20 World Cup and Asia Cup matches generate the highest betting turnover at live. When the Tigers step onto the international stage, the match winner and toss markets see particularly strong interest.

Betting Markets

Popular Markets — Where to Place Your Bet

At live, multiple markets are open for every cricket match. Below are the seven most commonly used markets.

Match Winner

Which team will win the match — this is the simplest market. T20 has no draw, so choose between two outcomes.

Most Popular
🪙

Toss Winner

Which team will win the toss before the match starts — odds in this market are usually even. Results are known quickly after a fast decision.

Pre-Match
🏏

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs in an innings — a player's recent form plays a major role in this market.

Performance Market
📊

Total Runs Over/Under

Whether the total runs in an innings will be above (over) or below (under) a set number — analysis of wickets and pitch conditions is useful here.

Runs Analysis
⚡

First Wicket Method

How the first wicket will fall — bowled, caught, run out, or another method — this market carries specific odds.

Specials Market

Multi Bet

Adding multiple selections to the same slip multiplies the odds. Combining three bets from three separate matches gives much higher total odds, but all selections must win. You can find the detailed multi bet rules at live.

Multiple Markets

Betting Exchange

In the exchange market you can back (bet on a win) or lay (bet on a loss) — both roles are available, which is different from a traditional bookmaker.

Understanding Odds

Decimal, Fractional and American Odds — Three Ways to Write Them

Betting odds can be written in three formats — decimal, fractional, and American. All three express the same probability in different ways.

Format Odds for Team A to Win Return on a ৳1,000 Bet
Decimal 3.00 ৳3,000 (profit ৳2,000)
Fractional 2/1 ৳3,000 (profit ৳2,000)
American +200 ৳3,000 (profit ৳2,000)

In the example above, the odds for Team A to win are written differently across three formats but mean the same thing — a winning ৳1,000 bet returns ৳3,000 (that is ৳2,000 profit plus the original stake). If you lose, the full ৳1,000 is gone.

A favourite has lower odds. Say Team B's decimal odds are 1.25 — that is 1/4 in fractional and -400 in American (the minus sign shows how much you must bet to make ৳100 profit). A ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,250 (profit ৳250).

In-Play Betting

Odds Shift with Every Wicket — In-Play Betting Strategy

In-play or live betting is the most engaging betting experience in cricket. The situation changes with every ball while the match is in progress — a big wicket or a heavy-scoring powerplay can shift the odds in an instant.

In live in-play betting you can see over-by-over run rate, number of wickets, and updated odds based on the current run target. In a T20, if after the 15th over the chasing team needs 80 runs off 60 balls, the match winner market odds tend to even out.

Another advantage of in-play betting is the over/under market. Once an innings ends, a new market opens around the run target for the next innings. This way there are opportunities to bet across multiple markets throughout the entire match.

If three selections in a multi bet have odds of 1.50, 1.70, and 1.80 respectively, the combined odds are 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.80 = 4.59 (approximately). So a ৳100 bet returns ৳459 if all three selections win. But if even one loses, the entire ৳100 is gone.

Sports Betting Beyond Cricket — Football and More

At live there is no need to stick only to cricket — football betting is equally popular. Football has three possible outcomes (win, loss, draw), which is different from T20 cricket. Match winner odds are generally a little lower on average because the uncertainty is split three ways.

Total goals over/under, both teams to score, number of corners — these markets work the same way as in cricket. The difference is that the clock does not stop in football, so in-play odds change even faster.

Practical Tips

A Few Things Before You Start Betting

Betting is a form of entertainment. Keeping the following points in mind will make the experience better.

01

Set a Budget First

Decide how much you will stake in each session and do not go beyond that limit. Betting is for entertainment, not as a source of income.

02

Focus on One Market

Start with simpler markets like match winner or total runs. As you gain experience you can try more complex markets.

03

Compare Odds

Look at the odds across different markets for the same match. Odds can change during in-play — read the situation rather than rushing.

04

Be Careful with Multi Bets

Multi bets offer higher odds but also carry more risk — one losing selection costs the entire stake. Starting with two selections is a good habit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cricket Betting Q&A

A T20 match is only 20 overs, so odds shift quickly and in-play betting is more active. In an ODI, with 50 overs, markets stay more stable in the middle stages and there is more room for statistical analysis. T20 matches cannot end in a draw, but an ODI can be left unresolved due to rain — this affects the markets.

You can still place a bet after the match has started — that is in-play betting. Odds are recalculated after every wicket, run, or over. At live, the in-play market keeps match winner, next wicket, and over-by-over run markets active. Using the mobile app helps you make faster decisions.

In a multi bet the odds multiply, so the potential return is larger, but the chance of winning all selections together is lower. If three selections have odds of 1.50, 1.70, and 1.80, the combined odds are 4.59 — a ৳100 bet returns ৳459 if all win, but if one loses the entire stake is lost. Betting is for entertainment — no one can guarantee a profit.

In major T20 leagues like BPL and IPL you can usually find match winner, toss winner, top batsman, total runs over/under, and in-play markets. The more important the match and the greater the audience interest, the more markets are available. At live, the range of markets for these tournaments is wider than at any other time.

With a regular bookmaker you can only back (bet on a side to win). On a betting exchange you can also lay — bet on a side to lose — in which case you act as the bookmaker yourself. If you lay against someone placing a ৳1,000 bet, you receive ৳1,000 if that team does not win (before commission), and you pay ৳1,000 if they do win.
